Juan Soto
The one constant in a difficult Mets first half
The 2026 Mets spent the first half looking up at .500, but one thing never wavered: Juan Soto was one of the best hitters in the National League, night after night, whatever the standings said around him.
The recognition came where it counts. Soto was voted a starter in the National League lineup at the All-Star Game — a fan verdict, not a technicality — and he made the most of the stage in Philadelphia, ripping the NL's first hit of the game, a single to center off AL starter Dylan Cease in the fourth. On a night the National League managed just three hits, one of them was his.
The stat awards on this page will reflect a first half spent near the top of the leaderboards. The Editors' Award is for what that meant to the Mets: in a season searching for good news, Soto was the reliable answer — the reason to watch, and the foundation the second half will be built on.
